Pensacola dives into the theme of romantic love, being at the ocean, and remembering how to play. ‘Just the water, just the sand, just this moment, take my hand, you hear the music, you understand, Pensacola, where I land,” My friend and producer Pedro Abriles and I filmed the scenes for this video during a joint family trip to Pensacola in October, 2024. It was my first visit to Pensacola, and I immediately felt at home. When we went to Pensacola, we had recorded seven songs for the album, and there were no plans for an eighth song. However, Pedro brought a rubber suction cup mount we were able to use to attach my iphone to my van window. As we drove around Pensacola, we used this to record street scenes. These scenes, along with my new love for Pensacola, inspired me to write this tribute song. It was super fun when I brought the song into the studio, and Pedro gave it a country twang!
Lyrics
Just the water, just the sand
just this moment, take my hand
you hear the music, you understand
Pensacola, where I land
Where the sun sets, where we retreat
where our colors paint the sea
where the darkness digs so deep
Pensacola where I sleep
You swept my heart away
diamonds dancing on the bay
I’d forgotten how to play
‘til you wrapped my body
in your waves
Abandoned fortress, abandoned graves
abandoned lovers along the way
come hear the music, the sweet refrain
Pensacola serenade
you swept my heart away
diamonds dancing on the bay
you invited me to play
now I’m body surfing
on your waves
Just the water, just the sand
just this moment, take my hand
come hear the music, you understand
Pensacola, where I land
Just the water, just the sand
just this moment, take my hand
come hear the music, you’ll understand
Pensacola, where I land (3X)
